Air quality in your office can affect your cognitive ability and job performance

Aren't you working effectively in your office? It may partly due to the indoor air, according to the latest research. It is illustrated that various furniture and different materials in the room cause air pollution in the room, which reduce your cognitive abilities and job performance significantly.

24 people involved in a 6-day study taking place during the week days except for Monday and Friday which are believed to decrease working efficiency. Every day, researchers changed the the amount of CO2 and volatile organic compounds deriving from furniture, floor, air conditioners, wall paint colors, which are easily found in normal working spaces. The labors attending this study didn't know about components of the air they breathed in, of course. Then later at noon, they took exams to evaluate their cognitive abilities as well as their working skills.

As a result, it was shown that job performance and cognitive abilities increased by 61% during the days that the air was fresher (less CO2 and volatile organic compounds). The better the air is, the more effectively people work, according to the final findings of the study.

Since then, scientists believe that our cognitive abilities are definitely determined by air quality, at least in a short period of time. However, researchers did not work on the long-term impacts of those compounds on people's job performance, though some of them had been dedicated to be harmful.

At present, hundred of studies are still carried out in order to find out the real short-term and long-term affects of air quality as well as solutions for those issues.
