Scientists believes in Darwin’s evolution theory in which human originated from a species of apes. So far, there have been hundred of studies carried out on apes and their relatives to figured out how human evolved. Recently, a orangutan named Rocky is reported to emit vowels. People believe he is able to stimulate human language.

According to a study led by Dr. Adriano Lameira at Durham University, published on Scientific Reports magazine, Rocky has learned about 500 vowels from his coach. This leads to the possibility that Rocky will be able to speak if he receives further training.
Theoretically,it is possible for red-whiskered bulbuls and parrots to imitate human speech whereas it is impossible for apes to speak cause their tongues are too thin and their larynx is too high to emit vowels. However, things proved to be totally different with Rocky, an orangutan living in Indianapolis zoo. He mimicked his coaches when they spoke to him. After more than 120000 hours being compared with 120 other orangutans, Rocky was reported by researchers to have 500 vowels. He uses those “vocabulary” to communicate with his coaches whenever they meet.
Previously, scientists claimed that caged orangutans could learn to imitate the high of their own sound after a period of listening to human conversations. With findings from Rocky’s ability, now it is relevantly promising to figure out whether apes could learn how to speak as well as how languages were created during human evolution.
